The Selimiye seen from the Muradiye, outside Edirne, Turkey التي كتبها birdfarm
The Muradiye was built in 1435 for Murat II; the Selimiye was built by Sinan in 1569-75. You can see the unique position of the Selimiye's minarets--at the four corners of the mosque building itself, instead of the four corners of the courtyard as had been common previously.
The Muradiye was locked when we visited, but it was well worth the side trip nonetheless. It has an aura of peace and stately grace that the more busy, baroque Selimiye seems to have left in the past.
