Late 15c / early 16c wall paintings in the chancel - The Legend of the finding of the True Cross - The Noble King Heraclius comes riding to Jerusalem bearing the cross with great pride. (an angel reminds him that our Saviour came in great humility) The veneration of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem Elizabeth l passed a Royal Injunction in 1559 demanding "removal of all signs of superstition and idolatry from places of worship".
