It is native to the southern United States and northern Mexico, but has become established in other places because of pet releases, and has become an invasive species in many areas, where it outcompetes native species / Shinjuku (新宿区Shinjuku-ku) is a special ward in Tokyo, Japan. Like the other special wards of Tokyo, Shinjuku has a status equivalent to that of a city. It is a major commercial and administrative centre, housing the northern half of the busiest railway station in the world (Shinjuku Station) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the administration centre for the government of Tokyo. Since the end of World War II, Shinjuku has been a major secondary center of Tokyo, rivaling to the original city center in Marunouchi and Ginza.
